Graubünden is building in the mountains

Graubünden captivates with its dramatic landscape and is an interesting destination for new architecture in the Alps. The conscious engagement with tradition, scale, and materials results in contemporary architecture without appearing ingratiating.

Using Vrin as an example, we discover reinterpreted timber construction, in Vals the careful processing of the locally typical Vals quartzite, Fläsch received the Wakker Prize for exemplary town design and there are always new concrete buildings, colored, decorated with ornaments and/or as monoliths in single-shell insulating concrete.

In the cantonal capital of Chur, there is a return to the heritage of 1960s concrete buildings; several icons of this era have been carefully renovated and expanded thanks to the intervention of the heritage protection society, so that old and new look to the future together.

Our tour offerings are not limited to the larger Swiss cities. Discover with us the architectural highlights in smaller towns, in the surrounding areas, or in the countryside.
